Statement from NYNJ Host Committee CEO Alex Lasry on Following the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Final at New York New Jersey Stadium

NEW YORK NEW JERSEY STADIUM — Following the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Final at New York New Jersey Stadium, FIFA World Cup 2026™ New York New Jersey Host Committee CEO Alex Lasry released the following statement:

“Today’s FIFA World Cup 2026™ Final proved what we have always known: when the world comes together, there is no better stage than New York and New Jersey. Hosting eight World Cup matches showcased our region’s ability to deliver the world’s biggest event through extraordinary partnership, innovation, and execution. The matches may be over, but the bi-regional coordination, infrastructure, and opportunities created through this tournament will continue to strengthen our region for years to come.”

NYNJ Highlights

• Over 97% of fans entered before kickoff for every match
• Egress times under 2.5 hours for all matches.
• Over 645,000 fans welcomed across eight matches 
• According to an analysis by Tourism Economics, through the five World Cup Group Matches hosted here in June, there was $1.2 billion in direct visitor spending, generating a total economic impact of $2.1 billion. This impact figure is not inclusive of operational spending during that window and does not yet include the economic impact in the games hosted since and the Final this weekend.
• The $2.1 billion in total impact generated by visitor spending during the Group Stage alone has exceeded original projections for the first few weeks of the tournament. That figure does not yet include operational spending by FIFA, the Host Committee, governments, sponsors, broadcasters, and the many organizations delivering World Cup matches and related events. Those expenditures were included in the original $3.3 billion total economic impact projection and will be incorporated into the final analysis.
• $228 million in state and local tax revenue was generated during the Group Stage in June. 
• To date, over 1 million fans have attended Official New York New Jersey Fan Events
• The Welcome World Rewards Program has become a meaningful part of the tournament’s regional legacy. Since launching in May, the program has generated about 10,000 small business visits across more than 1,000 local businesses, restaurants, cultural institutions and community events across New York and New Jersey.
