Statement from NYNJ Host Committee CEO Alex Lasry on the Conclusion of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Group Stage at New York New Jersey Stadium
NEW YORK NEW JERSEY STADIUM — Following today’s Panama vs. England match at New York New Jersey Stadium, FIFA World Cup 2026™ New York New Jersey Host Committee CEO Alex Lasry released the following statement:
“Today’s Panama vs. England match successfully concluded the Group Stage at New York New Jersey Stadium. Across five sold-out matches, we welcomed more than 400,000 fans from around the world, operated an Official NYNJ Stadium Shuttle system that effectively moved more than 69,000 fans to and from the stadium, and continued to strengthen our matchday operations with each event. Those results are a testament to years of planning and the extraordinary coordination among our transportation, public safety, venue, and FIFA partners.”
“Throughout the Group Stage, we consistently moved fans out of the stadium in under two and a half hours following each match. Today marked our strongest operational performance yet, with nearly 99% of fans entering the stadium before kickoff and our fastest post-match egress of the tournament, as the final full shuttle departed in under two hours.
“As we turn our attention to the Knockout Stage, our commitment remains the same: delivering a safe, efficient, and world-class experience for every fan who comes through New York New Jersey Stadium. The Group Stage proved that this region is ready for the world’s biggest sporting event, and we are prepared to meet the moment as all eyes turn to New York and New Jersey for the FIFA World Cup Final.”
