Tourism Economics Indicates $3.3 Billion in Projected Economic Impact to the Region

Over 26,000 Jobs Supported

More than 1.2 MM Visitors to the NYNJ Region

 

NEW YORK, July 21, 2025 — The FIFA World Cup 2026™ New York New Jersey (NYNJ) Host Committee marked a historic milestone today by ringing the Opening Bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), commemorating  what  only this region can claim: one year until the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Final Match takes place at New York New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium) on July 19, 2026.

 

 

During the ceremony, Host Committee Chair Tammy Murphy announced that the region is projected  to generate $3.3 billion in economic impact, according to a new Economic Impact Summary released today by the NYNJ Host Committee and developed in partnership with Tourism Economics, an Oxford Economics Company—leader in global forecasting and quantitative analysis.

“The World Cup is not just a global sporting event — it’s a powerful economic engine that will deliver lasting benefits to our region,” said Chair of the NYNJ Host Committee Tammy Murphy. “In less than one year from today, more than one billion people around the world will be watching as the FIFA World Cup Final kicks off at NYNJ Stadium. The countdown is on for this once-in-a-generation opportunity to showcase our region on the world stage. Our Host Committee and partners remain focused on our four key pillars — safety, transportation, fan experience, and economic impact — and there is no doubt that the legacy of this tournament will provide a significant economic boost for the region for years to come.”

Key Economic Impact Highlights:

  • $3.3B in projected economic activity through tourism, hospitality, and related sectors
  • Over 26,000 jobs to be supported across both states
  • More than 1.2 million visitors expected to travel to the NYNJ region during the tournament
  • $1.3 billion in projected total labor income in the regional economy
  • $1.7 billion in projected spending within the regional economy by match and non-match attendees
  • $431.9M in state and local tax revenues
